There’s always been something special about this day. The first fixtures of the year, the proper start of the road to Wembley, and the joy of non-league taking a swipe at aristocracy. And sometimes coming out on top. So here goes.

Not the sort of game that many Saints fans will welcome. Some may even welcome defeat. Then again, Palace are in a bit of a slump and are far from invulnerable. But you’d still expect them to win. Home win.

Banana skin alert. “These games are made for heroes,” said Gills boss and former Wall man Neil Harris. What is means is that the Gills have a sporting chance to beat the season before last’s Cup winners. Quaint. Away win.

Not a bad draw at all and shaping up nicely with Newcastle and Chelsea out, Liverpool maybe to follow and either Man City or Arsenal to go out in the next round.
